Classic Highlights

Facilities

Facilities are, without question, one of the strengths of our program and will enable each player to realize his or her full potential! Participants will be afforded the luxury of playing in the North County's basketball "Mecca," SUNY Potsdam's Maxcy Hall. The complex consists of six full-size indoor courts and numerous outdoor baskets, including four new full-size outdoor courts. Swimming will be available at the Maxcy Hall pool.

Hoops Tournament games will be played at Maxcy Hall and at the athletic and physical education complex on the campus of Clarkson University.  Clarkson will host games in the main gymnasium and in the field house.  These facilities are located within a two-mile distance from each other.

Low Cost Housing

Residence hall rooms on the campus of SUNY Potsdam are available for teams on a first-come, first-served basis. A coach or chaperone is required to stay in the residence hall with the team and supervise players at all times.  If your team requires housing please complete and return a Housing Request Form, also included in your registration confirmation packet.  The housing reservation deadline is one week prior to the start of each tournament. No exceptions will be made.

Participants stay in spacious dormitories on the SUNY Potsdam campus.  Residence hall staff will be available around the clock to make your stay pleasant and comfortable. Residents must provide their own blankets, pillows, sheets, and towels.  Food service is not available on campus during the tournaments.

Clinics with College Coaches

Players, coaches, and parents will be able to attend free basketball clinic presentations during the weekend. Our SUNY Potsdam coaching staff will provide instruction on skill development and also valuable information on the college recruiting process for high school students.

Past topics include:
• the inside-outside game of offensive basketball
• the recruiting process in college Divisions I, II and III
• fundamental offensive and defensive moves
• using the pick and roll and individual skills
• individual skill routines that make better players
• strength and conditioning programs

Awards

Championship shirts will be provided by Anaconda® and will be awarded to all players on the first place team in each pool. Each champion head coach will also receive an official "Hoops Classic" polo shirt.

International Participants

"The nicest thing about coming to your tournament are the facilities.  Everything is right there, it's clean, and you don't have to drive all over to get to a restaurant or your game site.  It's affordable, too - we'll be back." ~ Parent
