About Our Courses

A Welcome Message

The Center for Lifelong Education and Recreation at SUNY Potsdam is happy to provide you with the opportunity for a meaningful and enjoyable experience on our campus. We hope our selection of classes will both meet your interests and fit into your busy lifestyle. We invite you to enrich your life and experience all that our Non-Credit classes have to offer.

Best wishes,
Beth AG Todd, Coordinator of Non-Credit Programs

P.S. Don't forget to register before class sessions begin! Decisions regarding whether to hold a class are based upon enrollment approximately one week prior to the start date.

Registration Information

There are 3 easy ways to register:
Option 1: Register online with a Visa or MasterCard with our
secure online registration form.

Option 2: Register by phone at (315) 267-2167.

Payments must be received by the first day of class unless approved by the Non-Credit office. With the instructor's permission students may register for classes after they have begun. All courses have limited enrollment. When a course closes, a waiting list is automatically started. Vacancies in closed classes will be filled from that waiting list only.

Non-Credit Staff

Our instructors come from every walk of life, but possess a common desire to share their knowledge and experience with members of their community. For more information about our instructors, visit the Non-Credit Instructor Biographies page.

The Non-Credit office is staffed by members of the Center for Lifelong Education and Recreation.

Refund/Withdrawal Policy

If your class is canceled due to insufficient enrollment, you will receive a full refund. If you wish to withdraw from a course, immediately notify the office by phone at (315) 267-2167 / 2538. Telling your instructor of your intent to withdraw is not considered an official withdrawal. The refund policy for non-credit courses is as follows:

  • Full refund after the first class
  • 50% refund after the second class
  • No refund after the third class

This policy does not apply for courses of three or fewer class sessions. Processing refunds takes approximately two weeks.

Class Cancellations

Should a session be canceled due to inclement weather or any other reason, the Office of Non-Credit Programs or your instructor will contact you. Make-up sessions will be scheduled.

Academic Breaks

Non-Credit classes are generally scheduled around academic holidays at SUNY Potsdam. Most classes will not be scheduled the following days: March 5-12 and April 2-6. Please consult the specific course listing to determine no-class days for a particular course.

H1N1 Flu or Other Infectious Disease Policy

Cancellations Due to Illness

The Center for Lifelong Education and Recreation at SUNY Potsdam reserves the right to cancel non-credit courses, conference services, or summer camps in the event of an outbreak of H1N1 flu or other infectious disease. If cancellation occurs before the start of an event, registered participants will receive a full refund. If a course or camp is canceled after it has begun, participants will receive a prorated refund based on the number of sessions that have been completed.

CLEAR events may not be canceled due to low attendance. If a non-credit course instructor must cancel a class session, a make-up class will be scheduled.

Absences

No refunds will be granted for an individual's temporary absence from a non-credit class session. If it is necessary for a participant to withdraw from a non-credit course or event due to illness or other medical necessity, he or she will receive a prorated credit toward a future Center event with a doctor's note.
