Workshops for September- December 2011 are listed below. Contact Michael Phillips at phillimj@potsdam.edu to register
(required).

In the event that a workshop is canceled due to low
enrollment, arrangements for assistance will be made with the registrants.

WS1/WS2 ?
Packing & Preparing for the Move / An Introduction to Moodle 2.1

This
workshop is mostly informative, pointing participants to online tutorials that
may come in useful before, during, and after the move to Moodle. No hands-on
work in Moodle will occur during this session; Rather, participants will be provided
important information for preparing the content used in Blackboard for an
efficient transition to Moodle.

In addition, an initial introduction to Moodle, covering site layout, repositories, navigation, explaining the bells & whistles, tips on what faculty need to know, and what students should be made aware of.


When? September 16 & 30; October 14; November 4 & 25. All sessions from 2-2:50 PM.

WS3 ? Uploading
& Unpacking After the Move - Adding Moodle Resources

Moodle
resources include files, pages (like "items" in Bb), labels, and URLs. This
session will focus on adding pages and files to your site.

When? September 23; October 7 & 28; November 18. All sessions from 202:50 PM.

WS4 ? Advanced
Moodle Blocks ? What They Are & How to Use Them

Blocks serve
as "containers" for important information or common tasks. Navigation and
Settings blocks are found in all Moodle sites, and other blocks can be added to
your course sites, such as the Calendar, Section Links, and People blocks ?
three useful and highly recommended blocks. Adding, moving, and deleting blocks
will be addressed.

Moodle Forums & Messaging

Moodle's forums
come in a variety of flavors ? from, single, simple discussions to those
dependent on the students' input. The messaging system allows you to send and
receive messages to and from other Moodle users. It can also be used for notification
of new posts made to forums, and other events.

Using Assignments in Moodle

Similar to
the "assignment" utility found in Blackboard, we'll explore the four assignment
types available in Moodle, covering their set up, use, and grading.

Quizzes/Tests in Moodle

This session
will provide an introduction to the Quiz activity, how to create categories,
pools, and tests/quizzes.

Converting quizzes/tests from Blackboard to Moodle

This session
will cover the use of an online utility and a program, Respondus, to create
Moodle-friendly question pools.

Grades area in Moodle

This session
will explore the Grades area, including creating categories, weighting items,
and entering grades.

Moodle Site Layout Techniques (Labels, Summaries, Colors, and more!)

attend! Learn to organize and present your content effectively to your students
using tools, formatting, and recommended techniques.

WS12 ? Advanced
Page Layout Techniques 1: Embedding images, links, files, and web-based media

We will
explore using images to enhance presentation, adding links ? internal and
external ? to pages, and placing web-based media, such as YouTube videos,
directly in your Moodle site.

WS15 ? Groups
and Groupings in Moodle

Moodle
offers powerful groups and groupings
features, enabling the instructor with combined sections to focus attention to
one or all sections as needed. Resources and activities can be customized to
fit different groups of students, too. Sign up to learn and explore the possibilities!
