Configuring Sync with Palm OS & Mac OS X

NOTE: CTS Staff typically configure/reconfigure this software on College owned computers. These instructions are provided for non-College owned computers and/or CTS Staff to reference.

Configuring a PalmOne device (formally Palm Pilot) for Meeting Maker can be a tricky task. This document assumes that you have some knowledge of Palm Desktop software, conduit settings, and how to install software. Some troubleshooting skill helps as well.

  • Before you can configure the conduits, you must have the Palm Desktop software installed.
  • Next, you will need to install the Meeting Maker Palm Conduits
  • During the Meeting Maker Client install, you may get a dialog box offering to disable conflicting conduits. Answer Yes to each Conduit the installer would like to disable.
  • Once the install is complete, you will need to configure the Meeting Maker Conduits. Located the Palm folder that is located in your Applications folder, open it and launch the HotSync Manager application.
  • From the HotSync menu, choose Conduit Settings...

  • The Conduit Settings window displays the available Palm conduits.

  • One at a time Change... the settings for each of the three MM (Meeting Maker) conduits.
  • Below is an example of the MM DateBook conduit. All of them are similar.
  • Login Name and Password are what you normally use to sign into the Meeting Maker Client on your computer. The Server name is calendar. Adjust the other settings according to your particular preferences. WARNING: Incorrect Action and Upgrade Action settings can erase your Meeting Maker data or corrupt it. CTS will be unable to recover your calendar data in the event of misconfigured settings!

  • Next, even though the Meeting Maker Palm Conduit installer disabled some conflicting conduits, there may be more that you need to disable manually.
  • Known conflicting conduits that should be disabled are: Calendar, Contacts, Datebook, Tasks, and ToDos. Double-click each suspected conduit and change it's setting to Do Nothing and click the Make Default button as in the example below.

Troubleshooting

  • If you have any errors while syncing the MM DateBook, try reducing the number of days in the Range in the conduit settings and then increase them after a successful sync.
  • A conduit conflict occurs: It's likely that you have installed a conduit other than the ones listed above with the same functionality that Meeting Maker provides. We suggest a trial and error method of disabling conduits, one or two at a time as described above, and attempting to sync again.
  • "My datebook/address book/to do list is gone!" Possibly, you had an incorrect setting as noted above. You may have synced an empty Palm device to your Meeting Maker and selected the wrong sync direction in the conduit settings.
  • "I have duplicate date book events after syncing." Did you attempt to sync your Palm device with more than one desktop? If so, don't. Select one computer and always sync with it.
