VPN
VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. A VPN service provides remote access and private data communications over public networks.
CTS has implemented a PPTP VPN solution on campus. This standard is supported natively on Windows XP and higher as well as OSX 10.5 and above.
A VPN offers two main advantages in our environment:
- Wireless users can connect to the VPN to encrypt their airborne data traffic.
- Off-campus users can connect to use college services as if they were connected locally, such as Helios Network Storage.
The VPN technology CTS has deployed is remarkably easy to setup for the bulk of commercial operating systems.
