Opportunities for students

English and Communication Student Organization (ECSO)

eng&commbanner1

The Department of English and Communication offers undergraduate concentrations in literature, writing, and speech communication. In addition, the Master of Arts in English and Communication program provides opportunities for students to continue their studies of writing, rhetoric, literature, and communication.

English literature or writing majors study the ways that ideas and experiences may be expressed, so one shouldn't be surprised that students in law school study literary theory for better understanding of legal texts. And medical school students find that courses in the novel or drama help their understanding of people -- knowledge that can help them with their patients later in their careers.

Speech communication majors concentrate on the purposes, functions and varieties of human communication. They study the processes we use to deal with our environment as well as how we change and accommodate ourselves to it and how we impose our thoughts on the world around us.
