Gay Pride Parade

Location: Main Street, Potsdam, NY
Start: 04.26.14 1:00 PM
End: 04.26.14 3:00 PM
A SUNY Potsdam English and communications class is staging the county's very first gay pride parade. Students in Dr. John Youngblood's LGBT Communications course have gotten permission from the Village of Potsdam to hold the event on Saturday, April 26 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The goal of the class was to provide campus and community with awareness of gay rights, as well as showing pride and happiness within the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

The parade will begin in the Main Street public parking lot near Ives Park in downtown Potsdam, and will continue down Pierrepont Avenue to Marshall Park on the SUNY Potsdam campus. The class is creating floats, and has invited community members, including Potsdam Mayor Steven Yurgartis.

Following the parade, there will be a rally, including performances by student groups, in Marshall Park.

Miss Gay St. Lawrence County Amber Skyy will serve as the parade's grand marshall, and will also lead a drag show to cap off the rally, which will also feature some talented SUNY Potsdam students.

The gay pride parade is free and open to all in the community who wish to join in to learn from each other and have fun.
