Campus Alert Update: Maxcy Hall

Maxcy Hall will remain closed for the remainder of today, Tuesday, August 27.

Thanks to the hard work of hazardous materials crews, the ammonia leak at Maxcy Hall has been located and isolated. The source of the leak has been identified as the cooling system for the Ice Arena, which is currently undergoing renovations. The leak has been contained to an exterior mechanical room.

Environmental Health and Safety teams, including a host of responding agencies and personnel, are in the process of fixing the source of the leak, clearing all affected areas, and doing a complete survey of Maxcy Hall, to ensure that all areas are clear of fumes. A perimeter has been set up surrounding the facility as a safety precaution.

Employees that are primarily based in Maxcy Hall should consult with their supervisor to determine an alternative location for work.

At this time, all indications suggest that the College will be able to reopen Maxcy Hall for normal operations beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, August 28, at 7 a.m. SUNY Potsdam will send a follow up confirmation to campus when we have approval that all areas are safe for re-entry.

Your safety is SUNY Potsdam's number one priority. Thank you for your patience during clean-up.
