Faculty Excellence in Geology Department
Dr. Frank A. Revetta (professor emeritus), attended the Geological Society of America Meeting at Lancaster, PA to present nine posters on research conducted by him and students. Some research topics included a derivation of a formula for determining the magnitude of an earthquake in Northern New York and a graphical method for estimating the focal depth of a local quake.
Geophysical topics included the interpretation of gravity anomalies in the Glen Falls area, the Adirondack Mountains and the Chippewa Creek fault in the St. Lawrence Valley. Worldwide and local earthquakes recorded by the Geophysics Laboratory during the year 2013 and how they can be used in teaching was presented. Finally, the origin of a circular feature in northern New York was discussed and received widespread recognition by participants.
