Audio/Video Engineer Vacancy in Crane School of Music


The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam seeks an Audio/Video Engineer to serve the Crane Music complex and adjoining Performing Arts Center.

Duties include general oversight for audio/video technology for two facilities, responsibility for live streaming and recording of concerts and other events, editing and final preparation of completed recordings, ongoing maintenance and development of recorded archives, management of recording studio equipment and other critical resources, oversight of facility-wide audio/video equipment resources (including those in performance venues, classrooms, studios, and other rehearsal and instructional spaces), and execution of sound reinforcement and audio/video support for performances and other events.

Successful candidate must maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff, and/or guest artists, and be effective and knowledgeable working with musical performers and conductors in classical, jazz, and other styles, as well as performers/producers/directors of live theatre, movement and opera/musical theatre. Position includes supervision of student workers (including management and training) and may involve eventual supervision of other staff members. Must be available for evening/weekend obligations. Physical requirements include lifting equipment, mobility sufficient to access locations of equipment and connections, and other appropriate physical skills.

Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in audio/video technology or engineering, or in a performing arts discipline; demonstrated relevant experience in music recording technology and video production in an academic and/or professional setting; and ability to work efficiently with a wide variety of constituencies, including performing arts faculty, staff, and students. Graduate degree in audio/video technology or engineering; experience with or knowledge of video streaming, digital audio/video recording and production, live sound reinforcement, maintenance and configuration of audio/video equipment and software, and/or supervision of employees and/or program management preferred.
