Donald George from the Crane School of Music Releases New CD
The newest CD of Donald George of The Crane School of Music entitled "The Songs and Arias of Joseph Weigl" was released on July 7 on Amazon, iTunes and other sites. The CD was presented at a press conference on July 7 in the Hall of Mirrors of the Esterhzy Palace in Eisenstadt, Austria, the city of Joseph Weigl's birth. This was followed by a recital in the baroque Empire Hall of the palace. The research, compilation and transcription of this music was made possible by Kilmer ResearchApprenticeships and Title III with the Crane students Matthew Abernathy, Matt Duclos and Kevin Murray.
The Editorial Review from Amazon.com has written:
Few are aware that Josef Weigl (1766-1846) was both an acclaimed conductor and a highly successful composer whose fame - in his day - rivaled that of Cherubini, Rossini, Haydn and even Beethoven. Tenor Donald George and fortepianist Lucy Mauro merge their talents in support of music by this neglected, yet deserving composer in an historically informed performance.
