Crane Music Library

Location:
A200 level (plaza level) of Schuette Hall of the Julia E. Crane Music Center.
The library's collection includes books relating to music and music education, periodicals, scores, sound recordings, and video recordings. Guide to music resources in Crane Library.
Crane Library materials are listed in BearCat the college library online catalog. From off-campus, connect to the catalog from the library web site. The web site also provides access to online databases and other resources in music and music education.
Circulating materials:
Books, scores (other than critical editions) - 21 day loan for students. For details on overdues, fines, renewals, etc. - see Circulation Policies. Also note faculty loan policies.

Reserves:
Reserve services offer the examination of books, recordings, and other materials placed by the teaching faculty for use on the Crane Library premises only. It is offered at the Circulation Desk, at all public hours of the Crane Library's operation. Most Reserve materials are allowed for 3 hours of use at a time.

Recordings:
Sound recordings may be used only within the Crane Library, with the equipment on the premises. Library users may request individual items by catalog number, and headphones or listening room key, at the Circulation Desk. Teaching faculty may arrange for classroom use of some recodings.
Reference service:
Offered formally from 1-3 pm weekday afternoons, and from the Crane Librarian's office during all other business hours. For reference and professional consultations, contact edward Komara, 267-3227, or at komaraem@potsdam.edu
The Crane Archives:
Crane Archives have been incorporated into the Archives and Special Collections in Crumb Library. They include contains papers (including those of Julia Crane and of Helen Hosmer), photographs, tapes, and ephemera relative to the Crane School of Music. Its service is offered weekdays by appointment through Edward Komara (komaraem@potsdam.edu), or through Crumb archivist Jane Subramanian (subramjm@potsdam.edu)
MIDI Lab (Room A227):
The Crane School of Music and SUNY Potsdam Computer Services support a computer lab in the library that includes MIDI (musical instrument digital interface) technology, as well as access to word processing and e-mail. The Samuel Spurbeck Graduate Seminar Room
This room, within the Crane Library, is available for small classes, seminars, and occasional meetings. Those wishing to use the room must reserve it with the Seminar Room notebook kept at the Crane Library circulation desk.
