Alumni Association Grants Fisher Honorary Lifetime Membership

The SUNY Potsdam Alumni Board of Trustees recently honored William E. Fisher, a longtime administrator, by granting him Honorary Lifetime Membership at the College’s annual Reunion Weekend.

Honorary Lifetime Membership is presented to a non-alum who has made exceptional contributions to the Alumni Association and/or the College. Fisher was recognized for his tireless dedication to SUNY Potsdam, its people and the community.

One cannot walk the SUNY Potsdam campus without seeing the immense impact Bill Fisher has had. Upon his retirement on Dec. 31, 2010, as SUNY Potsdam’s assistant vice president for facilities, Fisher will have given 42 years of service to SUNY, 40 of them with Potsdam.

“Not many individuals can lay claim to this level of service to one employer, and far too few are so dedicated. Bill has a zeal and passion for Potsdam. His pride in his work, appreciation for those who work with him and generous spirit are quite evident,” read the citation honoring him.

A loyal member of the President’s Club of donors and the first recipient of the Potsdam College Foundation’s Fundraising Volunteer of the Year Award for his work on the College’s Annual Scholarship Golf Classic, Fisher is a key part of the tournament’s success. Last year alone, the College received $62,000 in scholarship support for current students, largely as a result of his hard work and dedication. Fisher is also a recipient of the 1998 President’s Award for Excellence in Campus and Community.

Through his vision and dedication, Fisher has shaped the SUNY Potsdam experience for students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents and friends. Fisher provided leadership for multiple campus projects, including the Mary English Commons, Becky’s Place at Pratt Commons, the Town Houses and Minerva Plaza, to name just a few. He has also been an integral part of the planning process for the College’s new Performing Arts Building. Many alumni recognize him as the face of the annual campus tours during Reunion Weekend.
