English Profs offer readings of their works

10.15.09

SUNY Potsdam Associate Professor of English and Communication Victoria Levitt and Assistant Professor of English and Communication James Allen Hall will present readings of their works on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. in the College Writing Center located in Carson Hall 106.

Levitt will offer a selection of poetry and creative nonfiction. She is a certified applied poetry facilitator through the National Federation for Biblio/Poetry Therapy and a member of the governing council of the Transformative Language Arts Network.

Levitt’s writing interests in both poetry and creative nonfiction are grounded in her work with writing as a vehicle for healing and personal growth. She has published a chapbook, “Talking to Poets.”

In addition to teaching at Potsdam, Levitt offers writing workshops independently and through local organizations such as the SOAR program and the Warner Cancer Center's Arts in Healing series.

Hall will read pieces from a lyric memoir about a particularly colorful family, as well as a few poems from his book of poetry, “Now You’re the Enemy,” which won the Lambda Literary Award and the Helen C. Smith Memorial Prize.

Hall’s poems and personal essays have appeared in “TriQuarterly,” “Boston Review,” “American Letters and Commentary,” “Redivider” and other journals. He was the recipient of fellowships from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and the Sewanee Writers’ Conference.

The reading is free, and the public is invited to attend.
