SUNY Potsdam is pleased to announce that John M. Wicke of Massena has joined the College’s Division of Advancement as a development officer.
Wicke had previously served on the SUNY Potsdam College Council since 2008. The College Council accepted his resignation from the leadership board at its Nov. 18, 2011, meeting. He told the council that he was stepping down in order to pursue the opportunity to join the SUNY Potsdam team.
“I am very pleased to join the SUNY Potsdam’s team of professionals during this time of growth and development,” Wicke said. “Given today’s challenges, it is paramount to build upon the great legacy of SUNY Potsdam’s exceptional learning experiences for today’s student. SUNY Potsdam is an integral part of the North Country’s economy and offers a unique educational opportunity for students throughout the Northeast and beyond. I am proud to be part of that mission.”
Wicke has been very active in community organizations and small business services throughout the North Country. With more than 20 years experience in management, public relations, sales and customer service, he brings many skills to the SUNY Potsdam staff.
Wicke attended Potsdam as a student prior to graduating from Clarkson University, and has been a recipient of numerous community awards and citations since then. He was previously the general manager for Penski Inc. In addition, Wicke served on the Massena Village Board of Trustees from 1995 to 2004, and on the Massena Town Council from 2007 to 2011.
As development officer, Wicke will work closely with SUNY Potsdam alumni and friends to seek support to fulfill the College’s mission, with a special focus on major gifts, as well as cultivation and expansion of programs to help the students and community members who benefit from SUNY Potsdam’s outreach.
“We are excited to have John join our Advancement staff. His commitment to the North Country and enthusiasm for our College mission, combined with his proven skills and extensive contacts, will bring a strong addition to our talented team,” said Vice President for Advancement Vicki L. Templeton-Cornell.
