Preparations for SUNY Potsdam’s annual Reunion Weekend are in high gear and the event, scheduled from Thursday, July 12, to Sunday, July 15, promises to be the best yet.
Registration is free through June 30, so all are encouraged to register now. All SUNY Potsdam alumni and friends are invited to join in the festivities.
Mini-reunions this year include:
• 125th anniversary of The Crane School of Music
• 130th anniversary of the Alpha Kappa Phi Sorority
• 55th anniversary of Sigma Alpha Iota Fraternity
• 25th anniversary of the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP)
• 25th anniversary of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority
With a complete daily line-up of events, concerts, faculty-led seminars and delicious dining opportunities, the 2012 Reunion Weekend has something for everyone’s taste.
The weekend will kick off on Thursday, July 12, with an early bird gathering at 4 p.m. in Becky’s Place at Pratt Commons, adjacent to the Raymond Hall lobby.
The highlights for Friday, July 13 include the welcome reception in the Barrington Student Union Dining Court at 4:30 p.m. Friday’s activities will also include an update on the Performing Arts Building at 2 p.m.; a Student Activities Gathering from 2 to 4 p.m. with alumni, current students and Dean of Students Emeritus Dan Hurley ’54; a presentation on the history of Crane Chorus from 3 to 4 p.m., and the family barbecue and ice cream social at 6 p.m. in the Townhouse courtyard.
On Saturday, July 14, reunion attendees will not want to miss starting off their day with the Bear Walk/Run at 8:30 a.m. Later that morning, guests can enjoy kayaking, canoeing and other family-friendly activities at Lehman Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Also on Saturday, alumni and friends will be on hand for the Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. in the Knowles Hall Multi-Purpose Room. This year’s inductees are Howie Vandermast ’86 (hockey), Kelly O’Donnell Warren ’93 (swimming) and Nathan Sunday ’01 (hockey).
Later in the evening, a gala reception and award presentation ceremony will be held in the Barrington MPR, beginning at 5 p.m.
This year’s Alumni Association award recipients include:

• Col. Michael Colburn and Michael Lewis, Honorary Lifetime Membership Award
• Gary Jaquay ’67 Distinguished Service Award
• Melissa Wegner ’03, Rising Star Award
• Scott P. LaVine ’71, Helen M. Hosmer Excellence in Music Teaching Award
• Kathy White Finnerty ’75, St. Lawrence Academy Medal
The class dinner will follow the reception.
Following the class dinner, Lisa Vroman ’79 will be presented with an Honorary Doctor of Music degree from the State University of New York in a special ceremony during a recital in Sara M. Snell Music Theater at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music at 8:15 p.m. The famed crossover soprano will perform alongside Crane School of Music Dean Dr. Michael Sitton.
Don’t miss this special performance marking Lisa’s achievement, and the completion of Crane’s 125th anniversary celebrations.

On Sunday, July 15, in addition to the farewell breakfast at 9 a.m. in Dexter’s Café in Thatcher Hall, there will be a guided tour of the Béla Bartók Cabin in Saranac Lake at 2 p.m. led by Ralph Hastings ’70, president of the Crane Alumni Board.
There will also be many other receptions, book signings, seminars and walking tours throughout reunion that will easily fill up the weekend. Maxcy Hall will be open periodically for free use by registered guests. Check the registration table for details.
SUNY Potsdam’s Reunion Weekend is held in conjunction with Clarkson University’s Reunion Weekend and the Village of Potsdam’s Summer Festival.
