SUNY Potsdam's 2013 Reunion Set to be Fun for All
Preparations for SUNY Potsdam’s annual Reunion Weekend are in high gear, and it is anticipated that the gathering, scheduled from July 11 to 14, will set records for attendance this year.
Registration is free through Friday, June 28, so all are encouraged to register now! All SUNY Potsdam alumni and friends are invited to join in the festivities.
Mini-reunions this year include:
- Men’s Wrestling Team: 50th anniversary of first season, 40th anniversary of SUNYAC 1972-73 championship
- Prometheus Fraternity: 45th anniversary
- Crane Youth Music (CYM): 40th anniversary
- Men’s Swim Team: 30th anniversary of the SUNYAC 1982 & 1983 championship teams
- Omega Delta Phi Alumni Association: 30th anniversary
- General Education Program: 25th anniversary
- Orientation Leader Program: 10th anniversary
With a complete daily line-up of events, concerts, faculty-led seminars and delicious dining opportunities, the 2013 Reunion Weekend has something for everyone’s taste.
The weekend will kick off on Thursday, July 11, with an early bird gathering at 4 p.m. in Becky’s Place at Pratt Commons, adjacent to the Raymond Hall lobby.
The highlights for Friday, July 12 include the welcome reception in the Knowles Conference Center Lobby at 4:30 p.m. Friday’s activities will also include a tour of Maxcy Hall at 11 a.m., an update on the Performing Arts Building at 2 p.m., a walking tour of the art on campus at 3 p.m., and a presentation on the history of Crane Chorus from 3 to 4 p.m., followed by the family barbecue and ice cream social at 6 p.m. in the Townhouse Courtyard.
On Saturday, July 13, reunion attendees will not want to miss starting off their day with the Bear Walk/Run at 8:30 a.m. Later that morning, guests can enjoy kayaking, canoeing and other family-friendly activities at Lehman Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Also on Saturday, alumni and friends will be on hand for the Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. in the Knowles Hall Multi-Purpose Room. This year’s inductees are Edane Barton ’05 (basketball), the 1972-73 Men’s Wrestling Team, Christopher Lee ’04 (hockey), Christopher Mele ’87 (lacrosse), and the 1995-96 Men’s Hockey Team.
Later in the evening, a gala reception and silent auction will be held in the Barrington Student Union Fireside Lounge, beginning at 5 p.m. The class dinner will follow the reception and this year’s Alumni Association award recipients will be honored and recognized.
This year’s award recipients include:
• Mary Helander ’83, Minerva Award
• George Arnold ’92, Distinguished Service Award
• Donald Lougheed, Honorary Lifetime Membership
• Jarrett Felton ’04 and Sandra Bosher Thornton ’03, Rising Star Awards
• Melinde Mospaw Poupore ’79, Helen M. Hosmer Excellence in Music Teaching Award
• Donnalyn Eaton Shuster ’78, St. Lawrence Academy Medal
Following the class dinner, a concert comprising of Crane School of Music faculty and alumni, with special guest Lisa Vroman ’79, will be held in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music at 8:15 p.m. The famed crossover soprano will perform alongside Crane School of Music Dean Dr. Michael Sitton. This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.
There will also be many other receptions, book signings, seminars and walking tours throughout reunion that will easily fill up the weekend. Maxcy Hall will be open periodically for free use by registered guests. Check the registration table for details.
SUNY Potsdam’s Reunion Weekend is held in conjunction with Clarkson University’s Reunion Weekend and the Village of Potsdam’s Summer Festival.
