SUNY Potsdam's College Store to Recognize Students for Volunteerism Efforts
The College Store at SUNY Potsdam is joining hundreds of other college stores across North America on Thursday, Oct. 3, to celebrate and promote social responsibility during the third annual National Student Day.
National Student Day, sponsored by the National Association of College Stores (NACS), is a day dedicated to celebrating and promoting social responsibility by college students. The College Store at SUNY Potsdam will ask students to share their story of volunteerism next week.
"We decided to take part in National Student Day because we see our students committing selfless acts every day," said Lyndon Lake, director of the College Store. "From volunteering at the fire department to organizing fundraisers like Relay for Life or a campus blood drive, our students continue to improve the campus community and beyond. We are proud of our students and are taking the opportunity to recognize them."
The College Store has a whole day of activities planned for Oct. 3, including:
·Raffle of vendor giveaways, with a drawing at 4 p.m.
·Pepsi Taste Challenge (starts at 10 a.m., until supplies last)
·Union Market food drive for local pantry
·Tables for student organizations to display their volunteer efforts
·Cotton candy and popcorn giveaway at the Union Market
·"Tell your story" banner: Participants will receive bracelets that are good for a free ice cream cone at Cookies & Cream
·Volunteerism dinner at Lehman Dining Center
·Cake and punch at the College Store
Students can also win prizes from NACS by sharing their story of social responsibility. Students can submit their story on how they give back to their community online. Stories will then be voted on by students across North America. The three most popular stories will win awards consisting of $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000 scholarships, and seven randomly selected submissions will win iPads.
