Teaching Writing in the 21st Century:

Whether in second grade or college, ELA or social studies, student writing is always a
central part of education. Eight Potsdam students will discuss some cutting-edge research
and innovation in the teaching of writing: making the best use of technology; useful
approaches for students with diverse language and learning styles; and understanding
rationales for family literacy programs. Pre-service teachers are encouraged to attend.

Presenters include: senior English majors Kwamé Alston-Clark, Josh Claflin, Dennelle
Gerard, and Almara Smith (’12); senior Secondary Education in ELA majors Megan Seth
and Brittany Wylie; and English and Communication graduate students Brenton Johnson
and Jamie Weber. They will present research they completed in Dr. Mitchell’s Theory of
Composition course.
