The SUNY Potsdam Department of Theatre and Dance will be hosting a special performance by Lehrer Dance in concert on Wednesday, March 22 at 8 p.m. in the Proscenium Theater, located in the College’s Performing Arts Center.

This performance is the opening event for the American College Dance Association’s New England Conference, hosted by SUNY Potsdam. Tickets are $5 for SUNY Potsdam students with ID, and $10 for all other patrons. Tickets are available at the door, one hour before show time. Seating is limited.

Touring internationally, Lehrer Dance is a professional dance company based in Buffalo, N.Y., which is now celebrating their 10th Anniversary Season. Under the direction of Jon Lehrer, the company showcases Lehrer’s unique choreography and embodies his definitive style. Lehrer’s extensive background in both the modern and jazz dance idioms, fosters choreography that is organic, artistic, accessible and often humorous, reflecting life experience and the human condition.

Lehrer Dance began in July 2007 and has already received significant national and international attention and critical acclaim. Dance Magazine writes that Lehrer Dance “took the house not so much by storm as by quantum physics,” and Galerie Ortenau in Offenburg, Germany declares, “dynamic, powerful, elegant—Lehrer Dance brings an absolute passion for the dance.”

The company tours extensively, bringing its trademark athletic style to audiences worldwide. Lehrer Dance toured Europe in 2013 and 2016 and will be returning in 2018. They also performed in Russia in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016. The Russian tours are sponsored by the U.S. State Department in order to, “bring the best in American modern dance to the people of Russia,” according to the U.S. Consulate in Vladivostok.

This project is supported by the New York State DanceForce with funding from the New York State Council on the Arts Dance Program.
