SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music to Feature Alumni Perfomances by Aaron Witek and Paul Tynan

SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music will host a special alumni performance on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater as Dr. Aaron Witek ’08 and Paul Tynan ’98 return to campus to present a diverse program of music ranging from baroque to contemporary to cutting edge jazz. Witek will perform music by Fasch, Neruda, John Mitton and Kevin McKee. Tynan will present an all-jazz program with many of his own compositions and may include works by Raigner/Robin and Dennis/Adair.

Left - Dr. Aaron Witek ’08 is assistant professor of trumpet at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.  He has performed throughout the United States and China as both an orchestral musician and soloist.  He was awarded first place in the historic division of the National Trumpet Competition.  His book, “Gordon Mathie: The Treasured Legacy of a Master Teacher and Performer,” is published by WR Enterprises.

Right - Paul Tynan ’98 is presently an associate professor of music at St. Francis Xavier University where he teaches jazz trumpet, jazz theory and arranging. He also co-leads the “BiCoastal Collective”, with Grammy winning saxophonist Aaron Lington. The ensemble is dedicated to performing new jazz compositions across North America. Paul has released ten recordings as a leader/co-leader on the Origin/OA2, Armored and NohJoh labels. As a jazz artist, Paul has appeared on over sixty recordings as a trumpet player, composer, arranger and/or producer and he has appeared alongside such musicians as Lynn Seaton, Marcus Wolfe, Stockton Helbing, David Braid, Aaron Lington, Joel Fountain, Bobby Selvaggio, Kenny Werner, Kenny Wheeler, Dan Haerle, Ben Street and Jamey Haddad.

This concert is free and open to the public.
