SUNY Potsdam voter registration drives net 300 forms


The efforts of several SUNY Potsdam groups in supporting the voter registration and education programs have led to approximately 300 voter registration forms and 350 absentee ballot applications, which totals 15 percent of the campus.

Through the collaboration of the Student Government Association, several resident assistants and mentors, the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership and the Faculty Senate Student Affairs Committee several voter registration and voter education programs have been offered over the last month.

SUNY Potsdam receives the environmental stewardship award from Hill & Markes


Hill & Markes Inc., Amsterdam-based wholesale distributors, recently announced that SUNY Potsdam received its Environmental Stewardship Award.

The award recognizes the responsible decisions that SUNY Potsdam has made regarding the products they select (Green Seal® Certified, EPA Registered, LEED Recognized, EcoLogo™, etc.) and the methods they employ to clean that contribute to a sustainable future.

Men's and Women's Cross-Country Compete at SUNYACs


The Potsdam cross country teams competed at the SUNYAC Championships which were hosted by Geneseo.

The top three finishers for the women were Sarah Rasco (Cadyville/Saranac Central), Lynea Longmore (Lorraine/South Jefferson), and Sam Love (Ransomville/Wilson). Rasco finished with a time of 25:34, Longmore had a time of 26:04 and Love had a time of 26:37.

Crane Professor Emeritus Brock McElheran passes away


Brock McElheran, 90, Crane Professor, Conductor & Music Educator

Brock McElheran, who established an international reputation as a choral conductor and taught thousands of choral and instrumental conductors during a 40-year career, died on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at his home in Potsdam, NY. He was 90, and was professor emeritus and senior fellow at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music.

Potsdam presents John D'Addario, Jr. an honorary doctorate from SUNY


John D’Addario, Jr., the eighth generation of the D’Addario family involved in the musical instrument string business and president of The D’Addario Music Foundation, recently was presented an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from SUNY Potsdam, on behalf of the State University of New York.

D’Addario received the award at a music education fundraising gala at Steinway Hall in New York City, featuring performances by Crane School of Music faculty members.

Spanish Fulbright Scholar gets down to the serious business of clowning at Potsdam


SUNY Potsdam received an added bonus when Associate Professor of Theatre and Dance Kimberley Bouchard served as a Fulbright scholar in Spain. She met Miguel Cortazar, an actor and teacher, who is now a Fulbright scholar-in-residence at SUNY Potsdam training students in the art of comedy and clowning.
