Men's Hockey Defeat Suffolk 9-1

Anthony Proteau picked up a hat-trick as he led the SUNY Potsdam Bears in Sunday’s 9-1 victory over the Suffolk Rams in the consolation round of the 2008 Skidmore Tournament. Potsdam was never challenged in Sunday’s action, as Proteau (Montreal, QUE/ St. Jerome Panthers) tallied a goal in each of the three periods. The Bears led 2-0 at the end of the first period, as well as, 7-1 and the end of the second period. Potsdam out-shot the Rams 48-15.

SUNY Potsdam Women Defeat Ithaca College

A last-second SUNY Potsdam field goal by Rachel Graf powered the Bears past the Ithaca Bombers in Sunday night’s 68-66 home victory. The hard-fought contest saw a dozen lead changes times throughout the night with the Bears going into half-time with a 31-27 advantage. The Bombers never backed down and enjoyed a 65-63 lead near the last minute of play. Potsdam battled back to a 66-66 tie before Graf’s shot ripped through the net as the buzzer blew.

SUNY Potsdam Bears and Great Northern Printing Team Up for “Go North Night” at Maxcy Hall

Area Youth Hockey and Basketball Players Invited for Evening Tripleheader. The SUNY Potsdam Athletic Department and local business Great Northern Printing are teaming up for a special “Go North Night” promotion on Friday, December 5th in Maxcy Hall. The Bears host an exciting SUNYAC tripleheader that promises to be a busy and exciting evening for all fans in attendance.

SUNY Potsdam’s Annual High School Science Lab Day

The Lab Day introduces high school students from throughout the North Country to geology, biology, chemistry and physics laboratory science at a college level and promotes the sciences as possible majors for college-bound students.

Women's Basketball Defeats St. Lawrence

Two Bears scored in double figures as Potsdam defeated visiting St. Lawrence 50-43 on Tuesday night in the women's home opener at Jerry Welsh Gymnasium. Cortney Poirer (Moira/Bruston-Moira) led the Bears with 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and five steals. Rachel Graf (Elbridge/Jordan-Elbeidge) scored 14 points and had also five steals. Kelsey Shoen (Waddington/Madrid-Waddington) grabbed 13 rebounds. Katie Palmer (Bourne, MA/Falmouth Academy) led the Saints with 18 points, nine rebounds and four steals.

SUNY Potsdam Women Win Consolation Round of Keene Tip-Off

KEENE, NH) The Potsdam Bears overpowered Johnson & Wales Wildcats 82-60 in the consolation round of the Keene State Women’s Tip-Off Tournament at Spaulding Gym on Saturday. Potsdam led the Wildcats 45-27 at halftime. Junior guard Cortney Poirier (Moira, N.Y.), a member of the All-Tournament team, had a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bears (1-1) to their first win of the season. Junior guard Rachel Graf (Elbridge, N.Y.) added 13 points and seven rebounds and senior forward Kelsey Shoen (Waddington, N.Y.) finished with 12 points.

Potsdam Men’s Basketball Defeats Clarkson

Led by three players in double figures, the SUNY Potsdam men’s basketball team defeated cross-town rival Clarkson 76-62 in the championship game of the Casella North Country Tip-Off Classic. Damon Brown (Brooklyn/Port Richmond) led the Bears in scoring with 17 while Alvin Dike (Bronx/Msgr. Scanlon) had 15 and Brandon Siskavich (Peru/Peru)had 13 to go along with eight rebounds. Dike was named the Tournament MVP and Siskavich was named to the All-Tournament Team.

SUNY Potsdam Women's Hockey Falls Short in RIT Hockey Match

The Bears women’s hockey team fell short in Saturday afternoon’s home conference contest with RIT as the Tigers prevailed 4-1. SUNY Potsdam now goes to 2-5-1 while RIT advances to 5-1-1. Potsdam freshman forward, Annmarie Lewis (Newmarket, ONT/ Aurora Panthers), made history tonight at 14:19 of the first period as she scored the Bears first varsity home goal since the women left the ice in 1984. The Lewis goal tied the game at 1-1 following Megan Kobar’s (Calgary ALB/ Calgary Chaos) game opener for RIT at 7:28.

Potsdam Swim Teams Finish Third at Invitational

Both the SUNY Potsdam men’s and women’s swim teams had good places at the North Country Invitational with each team finishing third out of the six schools that competed. The women had a total of 415 points behind Oneonta (639) and Clarkson (433). Kate Matthews (Malone/Franklin Academy) had the best finish as she took second place in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 58.06. Adrienne Brown (Endwell/Endwell)was third in the 100 Backstroke finishing in 1:06.87.
