First Art Exhibition of the Academic Year

September 13, 2017

The SUNY Potsdam Art Department & Art Museum are hosting visiting artist, Joel O’Dorisio Thursday, Sept. 14 to Saturday, Oct. 28.  He will present a lecture on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 3:30 p.m. in Brainerd Hall 202. The opening reception will be held on the same day from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Gibson Art Gallery in Brainerd Hall. We would like to invite you and your students to attend the artist lecture and opening reception for his exhibition, Abstractions of Nature.

The Gallery hours are Tuesday - Thursday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This exhibition is generously sponsored in part by The Lougheed-Kofoed Festival of the Arts.

Joel O'Dorisio's art incorporates both traditional blown glasswork and intricate cast sculptural glass to focus on the interaction between humanity and the natural environment, specifically using natural textures as a metaphor for nature’s chaotic beauty. In addition to glass, his work includes traditional sculptural elements to create artificial environments, which will explore the conversation between humanity and the natural world.
