Student Accident and Health Insurance

Students who are U.S. Citizens:

Student Accident and Health Insurance is an optional policy offered to students through Niagara National, Inc. for U.S. citizens.

SUNY Potsdam bills all U.S. Citizens Student Accident and Health Insurance each fall and spring semester.

Waiver of the Student Accident and Health Insurance can be processed in BearPAWS (Menu selections: Student Records and Financial Aid/ Student Records/ Bill Statement). To waive the Student Accident and Health Insurance, click the appropriate radio button on the BearPAWS Bill Statement.

SUNY Potsdam does not require verification of insurance for waiver of the Student Accident and Health Insurance. To decline the Accident and Health Insurance and/or Alumni Fee, the student must log onto BearPAWS (http://bearpaws.potsdam.edu):

  • Select Student Services and Financial Aid
  • Select Student Records
  • Select Billing Statement
  • Choose the relevant term
  • Click on Submit button
  • Click on the “No” check box to decline these fees

Please note: failure to remove these fees within 30 days from the first day of classes will cause you to be financially liable for these fees.

International students who are non-U.S. Citizens:

Annual Cost (2009-2010): $994.75 International Non-Canadian Student
Annual Cost (2009-2010): $72.00 International Canadian Student

SUNY directs all International students to purchase Intentional Insurance. Students who can provide insurance documentation of coverage in the U.S. may be eligible for a complete or partial waiver of the International insurance. All waiver requests must be processed by the end of the first week of the semester with the Office of International Education & Programs.
