Dance Ensemble

Mission Statement

Dance Ensemble is a Student Government Association (SGA) Organization housed within the Department of Theatre & Dance. Our purpose is to serve all students on campus within the context of the Dance Program's curriculum.

We work in collaboration with Theatre Guild and the Drama Program. We assist in finding and hiring guest artists who teach and choreograph for the students and/or present their own concert and dance work. We also support annual student travel to the American College Dance Festival.

Our primary function is to plan, organize, and financially support dance productions each semester. Concerts include those which are choreographed by students, faculty members, and nationally acclaimed as well as upcoming new guest artists. We strive to enrich the artistic development and the campus cultural environment for the students at SUNY Potsdam.

Dance Ensemble Goals

It is our goal to recruit and maintain active members in Dance Ensemble. The more active student participation in our organization, the better Dance Ensemble can understand the needs of students. We strive to keep our members up to date on departmental as well as non-departmental dance activities and upcoming events on campus. We are also working towards hosting more community service fundraisers.

It is also our intent to continue sending SUNY Potsdam students to the American College Dance Festival annually as well as bringing Guest Artists to SUNY Potsdam.

Recent Dance Ensemble Activities

Every fall, Dance Ensemble hosts an event called "Dancing with DE" to benefit our Student Choreographers Concert.

In the spring, we organize an informal benefit showcase of students' works to sponsor guest workshops and the Senior Choreographers Concert.

We look forward to hosting a Dance-a-Thon, open workshop classes, and more fun events throughout the upcoming year, as well as attending and presenting at the American College Dance Festival.
