Students for Peaceful Alternatives (SPA)
Mission Statement
It is our mission to raise awareness and promote activism amongst the SUNY Potsdam student population concerning world violations of human rights and the immoral practices of war.
SPA Goals
- To organize a program to assist students in registering as conscience objectors to war
- To expand our membership
- To facilitate a Peace, Poetry, and Art evening program
- To sponsor regular movie nights on campus
Recent SPA Activities
- Chopstick Memorial
- Participation in candlelight vigil for victims of the war in Iraq
- Sponsored a viewing of an anti-Walmart documentary
- Organized the erection of the Peace Pole in front of Brainerd Hall
