Topical Areas

The Task Force will be looking at data from a variety of sources in five main topical areas. In addition to written statements from key stakeholders, we will also be conducting informational interviews.

  1. Student Life

    • Open Community Forums
    • articles from campus media (RAQUETTE, WAIH) on Potsdam Greek community from the past 5 years
    • report on Greek Conduct incidents (with corresponding data for overall student population)
    • Greek membership and leadership roles in non-Greek student organizations
    • statement from the Dean of Students or his representative
    • statement from the Director of Athletics & Physical Education or his representative
    • statement from the Director of Student Conduct & Community Standards or her representative
    • statement from the Chief of University Police or his representative
    • statement from the Director of Residence Life or his representative
    • statement from the Director of Campus Life or her representative
    • statement from Coordinator of Greek Life or her representative (including a discussion of the evolution of support for Greek Life [staffing and finances] over the past 10 years)
    • statement from the Director of the Counseling Center or her representative

  1. The Potsdam Community

    • articles from local media (newspapers, radio, etc.) on Potsdam Greek community from the past 5
    • interview with Chief of Potsdam Police, mayor of Potsdam or their representatives
    • interviews with people who live next to / near Greek houses
    • statement from Director of Experiential Education (or his representative)
  1. The Greek Community

    • statement from the All Greek Council
    • statements from each Greek house (including chapter founding dates, mission and values, number of members, class year breakdown, ethnicity breakdown, members participating in campus paraprofessional positions [RA, OL, Wellness Advocates, etc.])
    • teams of task force members (2 or 3) visit each house to talk with members
  1. Greek Alumni

    • open e-mail to alumni (Greek, non-Greek) inviting comments

    • demographic data on Greek Community and SUNY Potsdam student community
    • 1996 Greek Life Task Force report
    • report detailing chapters that have closed / been closed / become inactive
    • Recognition Requirements (referred to as the Relationship Agreement in the 1996 Greek Life Task Force report)

Additionally, the Task Force will be holding two town hall-style forums open to all members of the SUNY Potsdam community. These forums will be an opportunity for all interested community members ? Greek and non-Greek ? to express their views, comments and concerns directly to Task Force members. We expect these events to be well-attended and may limit comments to 2 minutes per person. We will also, though, accept longer written statements via e-mail to GreekTaskForce@potsdam.edu.
