Student Health Insurance Plan

SUNY Potsdam arranges a health insurance policy for students who wish to purchase coverage during their stay here.  The policy is managed by the Maksin Group/Haylor, Freyer & Coon.  The policy covers students even when they are not on campus and during the summer.  See the links below to look at the details of the coverage offered.

Please be aware that you must sign-on to your BearPaws account to opt out of this insurance coverage.  It will be added to your bill automatically if you do not opt out of it.

What is the difference between the Student Health Insurance Policy and the Student  Health Fee?

The Student Health Insurance Policy is an optional accident and illness insurance plan that students can purchase.  It is designed to help cover the cost of unexpected medical expenses if they do not already have adequate coverage.

The Student Health Fee is paid by all students attending SUNY Potsdam in order to have health services on campus.  It is bundled into the comprehensive fee that is on the student bill.  The fee covers all of the benefits that Student Health Services provides, from programming in the residence halls to the medications for acute illnesses. Only those students who cannot reasonably be expected to access Health Services or who have exceptional circumstances can waive this fee. Please see Request for Waiver of Mandatory Health Fee (PDF)
