What is the difference between the Student Health Insurance Policy and the Student Health Fee?
The Student Health Insurance Policy is an optional accident and illness insurance plan that students can purchase. It is designed to help cover the cost of unexpected medical expenses if they do not already have adequate coverage.
The Student Health Fee is paid by all students attending SUNY Potsdam in order to have health services on campus. It is bundled into the comprehensive fee that is on the student bill. The fee covers all of the benefits that Student Health Services provides, from programming in the residence halls to the medications for acute illnesses. Only those students who cannot reasonably be expected to access Health Services or who have exceptional circumstances can waive this fee. Please see Request for Waiver of Mandatory Health Fee (PDF)
