The staff in the Division of Student Affairs supports students as they make the transition from high school to college, from dependence on parents to independence, from consumers of information to independent learners, and from college to the world beyond. We strive to create environments for students that are safe, supportive and challenging as they seek to meet their intellectual and personal goals. We place high value on diversity and inclusiveness, and seek to ensure that students who attend Potsdam explore universal themes such as social justice, leadership, ethics, service and community. We are educators who work outside the classroom.

Through our work, we encourage students to learn how to make good decisions about their own lives and to develop successful approaches to problem solving, communication, relationship-building, and finding purpose that will be cornerstones for their lives now and their lives to come.
The Division of Student Affairs serves to promote the growth and development of students as they become independent, responsible and contributing members of the educational community. We promote the synthesis of academic programs with the out-of-class experience to provide an environment that is rooted in learning and service.
