Thinking about a career in the field of criminal justice? SUNY Potsdam offers a criminal justice major and a minor.  This FIG serves as an introduction to the field of criminal justice whether you are interested in a career in law enforcement or corrections.  This FIG will explore current issues in the field of criminal justice, focusing on current debates in criminology and criminal justice.

This course will introduce students to the debates, theories and research methodologies that help us understand the organization and relationships that created and continue to maintain the criminal justice system.

96144 STAT 100 Statistics: 3 cr. MWF 11:00-11:50 a.m. Bugg, D.
This course serves as an introduction to basic statistics and problems of statistical decision making in the social and behavioral sciences.  Emphasis will be given to the application of statistics to analyzing crime data and the use of statistical procedures in criminal justice settings. Satisfies General Education FM requirements.

Basic Principles of Speech is an introductory course in public speaking. It is a skills course informed by speech communication theory. Skills include analyzing the speaking situation, choosing appropriate topics, conducting research, organizing ideas, utilizing evidence and delivering speeches effectively. Special emphasis is given to developing critical thinking and listening abilities. Satisfies General Education FS requirement.
