Studio, historical, anthropological and philosophical approaches to the world of visual arts for students exploring an art major.

ANTH 140 World, Art and Culture: 3 Cr. MWF 1-1:50 p.m. Perkins, M.
This course is an introduction to the expression of culture through art and visual display. We will explore how cultures throughout the world define identity through body decoration, painting, sculpture, film, museums, pop culture and other activities. The symbolic and visual meanings will be placed in the context of other categories such as religion, gender and ethnic identity. Satisfies General Education AC and XC requirements.

ARTH 100 Idea and Image: 4 Cr. TuTh 2-3:15 p.m. and M 1-1:50 p.m.  McNamara, M.
Introductory course in the appreciation and history or art. Covers painting, sculpture, architecture and other arts. Instruction in analysis of art works such as topics of color, theory and perspective. Subjects include the pyramids, the Parthenon, the medieval cathedral, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, and contemporary art. Satisfies General Education FS and AC requirements.

ARTS 120 Color and Design: 4 Cr. MW at 2-4:50 p.m. Yeomans, M.
Provides both art and non-art majors with hands-on experience in color and design. Introduces the basic visual elements and design principles used in art making including areas of painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, ceramics and sculpture. Theoretical, critical and historical issues of art making addressed through group critique and slide presentation of both historical and contemporary art work. Satisfies General Education AE requirement.

Exploration of subject matter, problems, methods and aims of philosophy. Satisfies General Education PI and FC requirements.
