Resources for Tutees

Acquiring a tutor/joining a Group:

  • To sign up for a tutor, visit the ASO office and fill out a tutor request form.
  • Signing up does NOT guarantee a spot in group tutoring as they may have already met their quota of students per group.
  • If no other requests have been made for that course or a tutor isn't available, there won't be a tutor/group.
  • Groups are always being formed throughout the semester, so check the Learning Lab Hours postings for the most up-to-date info on what's available.

Keep these tips in mind as you consider utilizing the Learning Lab and signing up for a tutor:

  • Sign up early in the semester! You'll need to fill out a tutor request form (available in the ASO office).
  • Attend class/ tutoring sessions regularly and take notes even if the material is confusing.
  • Make a habit of communicating regularly with your professors/ tutors by e-mail or in person.
  • Inform your tutor in advance regarding the content that you would like to cover during group sessions.
  • Come to tutoring sessions with homework, class notes, textbooks, and a list of any questions that you may have.
  • Remember that tutoring is not a substitute for attending classes and meeting with your professors during their office hours.
  • Participate actively in class and in tutoring sessions.
  • Be willing to take suggestions and try new strategies.
  • Remember that improvement takes time.

And Finally, Please Remember….
Tutoring is a team effort.  Our tutors are putting forward their best efforts to assist you.  We ask that you do so as well.  If you have any questions or concerns about your group, please see the Academic Support Coordinator immediately.
