What is a Leave of Absence?

A Leave of Absence is a formal request to leave school but return within one year.

Request a Leave of Absence if you need to take some "time off" from college but have a plan and expect to return to SUNY Potsdam within a year's time.

You should know:

  • If you are requesting a Leave of Absence, you'll need to indicate the semester you plan to return.
  • Before returning, either contact the Office of the Registrar, (315) 267-2154 to obtain a form or download and fill out an Application for Readmission form (PDF). Return the completed form to the Registrar's office.
  • To be readmitted for a fall semester, the application must arrive by July 15 and to return in the spring, it must arrive by December 15.
