Potsdam Prepared: Fall 2021 Updates

Spring 2021 Move-Out Guide

Testing before you leave campus

  • All residential and local students will continue to be tested weekly for COVID-19. Our final regular testing dates before the end of the semester are on Monday, May 10 (the last week of classes) and Monday, May 17 (during finals week).

  • In order to keep your family and friends safe, all students must receive a "pooled presumed negative" or "reflex negative" test result prior to leaving campus/Potsdam.

  • You should receive an email from Clarifi COVID-19 Team when your personal test results are ready. You can also log into their website to check your results (your log-in information is the same that you use to register your test each week).

Typical test timing to help with planning your departure

  • If you test before 3 p.m. on Monday, we most likely will have your pooled results by the end of the day on Wednesday.

  • If you test after 3 p.m. on Monday, you will most likely receive your pooled results on Thursday.

  • If you are in a positive pool, it will likely take an additional 24 hours to receive your individual results.

  • Please note that these are estimates only; we unfortunately do not have any control over how quickly the Upstate Medical lab processes the tests and cannot guarantee any timeline. We ask for your flexibility as we work to get everyone home safely.

Additional considerations

If you are fully vaccinated (14 days after receiving your second shot of either Pfizer or Moderna, or 14 days after receiving your only shot of Johnson & Johnson), you may make plans to leave once you have received your “pooled presumed negative” or “reflex negative” results (see above).

If you are not yet fully vaccinated, we encourage you to plan to leave on the weekend if one or more of the following apply to you:

  • You will be traveling home using public transportation.

  • You will not have a safe place to quarantine if you make it home and are identified as a close contact.

  • You live with someone who is immunocompromised, elderly, or who has a COVID co-morbidity and who is not fully vaccinated.

By planning to leave on the weekend, we should have received all test results and have completed all contact tracing—ensuring that all of our students are as safe as can be, as you travel home!

Moving out of the residence halls

  • SUNY Potsdam's semester will end on Saturday, May 22, and residential students are required to vacate the residence halls by 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 23.

  • In order to reduce density in the residence halls and ensure proper social distancing, you must identify the approximate day/time that you intend to move out of the residence halls. Please schedule this by completing this survey by the end of the day on Sunday, May 2.

Reminders as you move out

  • Students will be able to have 2 guests assist them with moving. The two-hour block of time that you have identified to move out is the only time that your guests will be allowed in the building.

  • All individuals must adhere to social distancing expectations.

  • All individuals will be asked to wear masks and to sanitize/wash their hands frequently throughout the process.

  • The check-out process will be self-guided; no face-to-face staff interactions will be required. We will have staff members on campus monitoring check-out and will be available to answer questions by phone.

  • Due to complications with COVID, we will not be able to offer storage this year, nor will we be able to allow students to use College bins to assist with the moving process.

  • All of your items must be taken with you. Any items that remain, including bikes outside of the buildings, will be donated or discarded.

  • Please be mindful of the cleaning staff by helping to taking your trash directly to the dumpster.

Summer housing

  • The residence halls will not be open this summer. As such, no students are able to remain in the residence halls past 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 23.

  • If you need assistance securing alternative housing for the summer, please contact us at
