Potsdam Prepared: Spring 2022 Updates

Spring 2022 Student Checklist

Here’s your checklist to get ready to return for Spring 2022!

1. Get your booster!

SUNY has mandated boosters!

In addition to the initial course of vaccination, any student with regular on campus presence (i.e., not fully remote for the semester) who is eligible for a booster shot MUST receive one for the Spring '22 semester by February 1st, 2022. If you are not yet eligible for your booster you will have one month from the date you are eligible to get it.

You are eligible to get a booster shot if you are 6 months after your last Moderna shot, 5 months after your last Pfizer shot or 2 months after receiving the  Johnson and Johnson vaccine. Click here to learn more about the boosters and schedule an appointment to receive yours. The booster will not only help protect you from COVID and severe symptoms, individuals who have received their booster shot will not need to quarantine following an exposure as long as you are asymptomatic (although you will need to wear your mask for 10 days after the exposure).

We also strongly encourage you to get your flu shot. The CDC says it’s safe to get the flu vaccine and a COVID vaccine at the same time, whether it’s your first COVID vaccine, or for those who are eligible, your third dose or a booster shot. Learn more

2. Get a COVID-19 test 72 hours before coming to campus.

In order to limit the spread of COVID, we will ask all students to get tested within 72 hours of their return to campus. We highly encourage students to use this time to schedule a test in advance, or obtain an antigen test ahead of your return. If you live in New York, you can schedule a COVID test here. If you live outside of New York, please consult your state's department of health.

Students will be asked to provide proof of a negative test result before returning or get tested immediately upon arrival. Students will be able to provide PCR test results from within 72 hours of arrival to campus, or rapid antigen test results taken no more than 6 hours before your arrival. By getting tested at home, we hope to catch more cases before students travel to Potsdam, and maintain the availability of our on-campus isolation and quarantine spaces.

Those who are unable to show proof of a negative test result will be required to test on campus using the pooled saliva testing through Quadrant Biosciences.

If you have tested positive, or get a positive result before returning to campus, you should notify us right away. Students should upload their test results to Student Health Services via the secure file upload here. Once released from isolation, and if you are eligible, you can schedule your booster, if you have not already done so.

3. Move in and get settled.

If you are living on campus, your card access to the buildings will be activated once you have completed your COVID test. Students are allowed to have a maximum of 2 guests to help them move into the residence halls. Everyone is required to wear masks during move-in, regardless of vaccination status. Unfortunately, we cannot provide moving bins this year, so please plan ahead accordingly!

4. Have a great semester!

You make us #PotsdamProud. Let’s make this a fun, safe and successful spring. Go Bears!
