Description: Community Performance Series is a college-community partnership that presents distinctive and renowned performing arts events in Northern New York. CPS has been in residence at SUNY Potsdam since 1989, ensuring enhanced access to performances through three main efforts: The Guest Artist Series, now in its 29th year, has brought a rich variety of performing artists to Potsdam. In 1995, CPS developed the Meet the Arts series to introduce children and families to the performing arts through school-time programs and family-friendly events. CPS provides administrative support to several campus and community performances in an effort to increase public awareness of arts opportunities.

Internship Position: LoKo Arts Festival Intern 

Description: The LoKo Arts Festival is a 10-day celebration of the arts at SUNY Potsdam and includes theatre, dance, vocal and instrumental performances, visual arts exhibitions, creative writing programs and guest artist visits. The 2020 LoKo Arts Festival takes place May 1 - May 10, 2020. The LoKo Arts Festival was founded in 2012 thanks to the spirit and generosity of the festival's benefactors Kathy (Kofoed) Lougheed '54 and her husband Don Lougheed (Hon. '54). All events are free and open to the campus and community. 

Ideally, the LoKo intern will bring fresh ideas and skills to the planning and implementation of the Festival. The intern will work on a variety of tasks including: maintenance of the Festival schedule online, create content for social media, help with events and promote student involvement, advise on LoKo marketing material and assist with general office duties. Student should be comfortable with a variety of social media platforms, have strong communication skills and be comfortable and competent to work independently. Familiarity with the arts on campus is an asset. 

LoKo intern must be in good academic standing. Intern receives the Bruce and Barbara Conroe Arts Management Internship Scholarship of $1,000 for the academic year. Fall semester expectations are approximately 2-3 hours a week and spring semester about 4-5 hours a week.

Description: The North Country Children’s Museum is a non-profit organization formed in 2012 by a group of educators with a collective vision to create a cultural and educational center for North Country families. Drive by a mission to bring hands-on learning to the community, NCCM developed a Museum Without Walls program and traveled weekly to the Clarkson University Bookstore during the school year and to festival throughout the region during the summer. These pop-up workshops offered interactive programs for children 12 and under and their families in a wide range of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) topics. In creating engaging, fun and memorable educational experiences, NCCM provides space for children to try on the role of scientist, engineer and artist. NCCM’s commitment to hands-on, minds-on learning is reflected in our new space in the Red Barn at 10 Raymond Street in historic Potsdam, NY, which opened doors to the public in the summer of 2018.

Description: TEDx SUNY Potsdam is a one-day event which takes place in the spring of each year which provides a platform for the intersection of innovative ideas and practices within the SUNY Potsdam community. The inaugural event in 2019 was entitled “The Future of the Creativity” and consisted of a series of talks in the TEDx format from college faculty, students and special guests from Germany and New York City.  In addition, there were experiential workshops & break-out sessions and a culminating open forum, all taking place at the Performing Arts Center on campus. This event was open to the entire campus and Potsdam community, and provided a platform for dialogue and creative interactions around the innovation happening on campus. The initiative is a collaboration between the Crane School of Music, the Arts Management Program, the Department of Theatre and Dance and the Crane Institute for Music Business and Entrepreneurship. 

Internship Opportunities: TEDx SUNY Potsdam requires significant administrative support, and each event offers internship opportunities to roughly 10 Arts Management program students. Under the guidance of faculty, student committees in several administrative areas (front of house, technology, fundraising, project planning, etc.) work to develop strategies and fulfill specific tasks to ensure the successful implementation of the event. These roles include both leadership and administrative assistant work to give students experience managing the day to day operations of a large cultural event.  Internships are designed to merge the administrative needs of the initiative with students’ academic interests (marketing, program design, documentation), and provides active applications of learning. Positions are posted for the event by October 1st on the TEDx website, where students will be selected and interviewed for placements which begin with a preliminary meeting in early December.
 
TEDx was created in the spirit of TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design), a global movement founded to disseminate ‘ideas worth spreading’.

Description: BDF provides rigorous training for dancers, offers residencies for practicing dance artists, and presents performances by a renown roster of local, national, and international dancemakers. Serving Maine, as well as a diverse community of dance audiences and arts lovers, BDF offers unprecedented access to and fosters deep appreciation for contemporary dance. The Bates Dance Festival is comprised of four interwoven programs: two professional training programs including the Young Dancers Workshop (YDW), Professional Training Program (PTP), a main-stage performance series, and a Youth Arts Program.

Interns work closely with the Festival Director, Admissions Director, Box Office Manager and the faculty to support the day-to-day activities of the Festival. Interns assist with general office management; creation and preparation of materials for students, artists, public engagement and events; program scheduling and logistics; artist services; documentation and store management and sales.
