Title: Experimental Contemporary Percussion Day

Percussion is defined as the family of instruments whose sound is made by striking, scraping, beating, or shaking. Up until the 1950's, percussion was seen as such; just various sound effects that add color to a large ensemble setting, and not much more. However, not only has percussion grown into the facility as a solo instrument, but it has expanded the boundaries of what is considered percussion, and even what is considered music. I want to explore the works that pushed these boundaries, and showcase a different genre of music many here at Crane don't study. For my project, I plan to have an Experimental Contemporary Percussion Day. This event will include performances and masterclasses by professional percussionists, as well as performances by myself and other Crane students. I plan to also give a presentation on my research during the event, and ultimately, find music that those outside of Crane can participate in, because, anyone can be a musician if they are given the facility to do so.
