B.A. in Childhood/Early Childhood Education

Joint Childhood/Early Childhood Education Program (B.A. degree) with Jefferson Community College

  • Earn your bachelor’s degree in childhood/early childhood education in Watertown, thanks to an expanded partnership between SUNY Potsdam and Jefferson Community College!
  • Successful students are recommended to New York State for certification in both early childhood (birth to Grade 2) and childhood education (Grades 1 through 6).
  • One specialization area is required (English and history are recommended).
  • All regular coursework is offered in Watertown! Students only need to come to the Potsdam campus for one upper-level student teaching seminar.
  • Student teaching placements available throughout Jefferson and Lewis counties.
  • Bachelor’s graduates can then pursue SUNY Potsdam graduate education programs, many of which are offered online.

Program Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will be able to:

  • demonstrate the ability to develop an interdisciplinary learning segment that incorporates various learning modalities that support early childhood learning.
  • deliver a presentation which demonstrates proficiency in analyzing a world culture or a global issue impacting society that will promote P-6 students’ abilities to gain an understanding of the culturally diverse world in which they live.
  • demonstrate the ability to develop and teach a data driven learning segment based upon P-6 student work samples which represent various patterns of learning.
  • plan and use developmentally appropriate materials, activities,  instructional strategies and technology in their daily lesson plans for P-12 learners.
