Climbing Wall Belayer Certification Training

Students will gain the skills necessary to indoor rock climb by attending Open Climbing Wall hours at the Maxcy Hall Field House for at least 8 hours and successfully passing the climbing wall belay test. Hours for instruction are during normal open climbing wall hours which are usually 2 hours in the evening, daily. Hours will be posted at the climbing wall desk. This program meets the healthy behavior competency by helping participants learn about and practice lifelong methods of being active; overcoming and working through problems; and goal planning.
- Students will be able to identify and properly use basic climbing equipment including harness, locking carabine, belay device and ground anchors.
- Students will become familiar with proper climbing movement/technique.
- Students will become familiar with climbing safety procedures including climbing checks and commands.
- Students will be able to identify the risks and benefits of climbing.
