SUNY Potsdam Dedicates First Campus Wind Turbine

In a fitting celebration of National Sustainability Day, SUNY Potsdam officially dedicated the campus’s first wind turbine today in a collegial celebration, along with local leaders and partners from Clarkson University.  SUNY Potsdam’s new 3.5 kilowatt turbine is locally produced by Ducted Wind Turbines. Leaders from both campuses were on hand to help flip the switch to test out the blades in the breeze, following a ceremony at the turbine site, located on Outer Main Street.

SUNY Potsdam & Westchester Community College Sign Transfer Agreement for Students Pursuing Degrees in Environmental Studies or Exercise Science

SUNY Potsdam and Westchester Community College have signed a new transfer agreement enabling WCC students who have earned either an Associate in Science (AS) degree in environmental studies or in health and human performance, to pursue their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in environmental studies or their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in exercise science, respectively, at Potsdam.

SUNY Potsdam Begins Construction on HEARTH, a Heritage-Based Laboratory for Campus & Community

Master carpenters have been hard at work this week raising posts and trusses using the traditional timber framing method at a new donor-funded facility at SUNY Potsdam. Once completed, the SUNY Potsdam Handcrafted Experiential Archaeological Research and Teaching Hub (HEARTH) will be a heritage-based living laboratory designed for use by both campus and community, dedicated to teaching traditional skills in hands-on workshops.

SUNY Potsdam Honors Class of 2021 at Commencement

SUNY Potsdam honored its Class of 2021 graduates far and near with a series of three socially-distanced ceremonies in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall at The Crane School of Music—the first time that the hall has seen such numbers of people in more than a year. Filled (if not to capacity, in spirit at least) with graduating seniors delighted to be together for this milestone, the space resounded with song, cheers, laughter and even some tears.

Three outstanding SUNY Potsdam seniors were recently among those honored with the 2021 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. Chancellor Jim Malatras presented the awards in a virtual ceremony. The SUNY Potsdam recipients included Jennifer Darlak ’21, Haven Gotham ’21 and Monica Mack ’21.

SUNY Potsdam State Vaccination Site Approaches 45,000 Shots

The New York State vaccination site based in SUNY Potsdam’s Maxcy Hall Fieldhouse is now approaching 45,000 shots administered, in the ongoing fight against COVID-19. As the eligibility criteria continue to expand, more and more New Yorkers are able to be protected against the virus by receiving their free immunization at the clinic. Nurses are now administering approximately 2,000 vaccines a day, with staff available to assist with registration upon arrival, observe patients for any adverse reactions and help those with accessibility needs. Nearly 400,000 shots have been administered at 32 SUNY campuses across the state to date.
