SUNY Potsdam to add Track and Field


POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam Athletic Department is pleased to announce that it will add men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field programs to its intercollegiate sports offerings. The programs will have club status for the 2016-17 school year and become full fledged NCAA Division III varsity teams in 2017-18. "This is an exciting opportunity for our department and college," said Athletic Director Jim Zalacca. "It aligns itself with track and field programs offered within the SUNYAC and with high school programs within our recruiting boundaries.

54 Bears earn SUNYAC Academic honors


POTSDAM, N.Y. – SUNY Potsdam student-athletes competing in fall sports were recognized by the State University of New York Athletic Conference for their academic success during the Fall 2015 semester the league announced today.

A total of 54 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Team, which includes players maintaining a minimum 3.3 grade-point-average for the semester.

28 of the 54 total student-athletes were given Commissioner's List accolades. Players named to this list have carried a minimum 3.3 grade-point-average over three consecutive semesters at Potsdam.

Lakers hold off Bears


POTSDAM, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team's (1-20, 0-14) fell short against Oswego State (4-18, 2-13) with a score of 62-55. The Bears were led by senior forward Katie LaVoie (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) with 20 points and eight rebounds for the game-high. Two Lakers recorded double-doubles, sophomore forward Zana Dillard (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) and junior guard Mary Mazzella (Peru/Peru).

Tardelli shuts out Cougars 3 to 0


POTSDAM, N.Y.—Senior assistant captain Abby Tardelli (Potsdam, N.Y./North Country Ice Storm) recorded her second career shutout as the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (9-12-2, 4-11-1 ECAC West) blanked Chatham University (6-14-1, 2-12-1) for its third straight victory. Junior forward Jordan Ott (Hilton, N.Y./Rochester Edge), freshman forward Jenna Patterson (Boissevain, Manitoba/Westman Wildcats) and sophomore forward Anna-Rose Bertin (Marathon, Ontario/Canadian International Hockey Academy) each scored for the Bears.

Chatham edges Bears on Senior Day 2 to 1


POTSDAM, N.Y.—Junior forward Jordan Ott (Hilton, N.Y./Rochester Edge) scored a third period goal, but the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (9-13-2, 3-12-1 ECAC West) came up short in a 2-1 loss to Chatham University (7-14-1, 3-12-1). Senior assistant captain Abby Tardelli (Potsdam, N.Y./North Country Ice Storm) made 26 saves for the Bears on Senior Day.

The Cougars outshot Potsdam 10-8 in the first period and scored the only goal. Junior forward Jenny Jones (Kernersville, N.C./Anaheim Lady Ducks) scored at 5:16 to give Chatham the lead for good.
