SUNY Potsdam Alert: Spring Break extension, classes moving to distance learning on March 23

As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread across the state, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has ordered all State University of New York and City University of New York campuses to move to distance learning to complete the Spring 2020 semester.

In light of this, SUNY Potsdam has decided to extend our students’ Spring Break, which is currently ongoing, by an extra week. Classes will resume on Monday, March 23, with coursework moving to a fully distance learning format via online and remote instruction through the end of the semester.

The extended student break will allow the College more time to complete our ongoing academic preparations to move coursework online and to remote delivery methods, and to assist the campus and community with resulting questions and concerns. Please note that these changes will not lengthen our semester.

The College is taking these extraordinary measures in order to protect the health of our students, faculty, staff and community members, while doing everything in our power to fulfill our academic mission.

Students
Residential students are welcome to stay on campus. There will be a process for students to return to collect belongings. More information will be forthcoming. Campus housing, dining operations and support services will continue to serve students on campus. If these changes may cause you hardship or you are concerned about accommodations, please contact Residence Life at reslife@potsdam.edu or (315) 267-2350.

Teaching faculty
Teaching faculty are expected to report to campus on Monday, March 16, for all-School meetings. More information will be sent by the academic deans.

Staff
Staff should continue to report to work as usual. There will also be a meeting for professional, classified and auxiliary staff on Monday, March 16. More details will follow.

There are still no positively identified cases of COVID-19 in St. Lawrence County, or within our campus community. SUNY Potsdam’s coronavirus task force is meeting regularly and will be sending numerous updates on specifics in the coming days.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
