Resident Assistant/Mentor

How will becoming an RA or Mentor affect my Financial Aid package?

If you become an RA, your semester bill will be less. You will be borrowing less loan money, and that will mean you will have less to pay back!

  • RA's get the equivalent of a FREE room each semester
  • RA's also get a "Residence Assistant. Credit" on their bill each semester:
  • - First Year Experience Program: $725 or Regular Room Hall: $485
  • Mentors also benefit with less
  • - Mentors get 1/2 room cost waived & $100 credit on their bill each semester.

Remember:

  • It will never affect your PELL or TAP
  • Total financial aid eligibility will stay the same
  • It means taking our fewer loans
  • If you take over for someone who has resigned as a RA part way through a semester, your room & RA credit would be prorated based on the week of school you became an RA
  • RA and Mentor aid packages may be adjusted by reducing PLUS (if possible), Unsubsidized, Subsidized, Perkins, Federal Work-Study, SEOG and EOP.

Here is a sample comparison between an original financial aid package and a financial aid package with the RA or Mentor credit:
