an important component of the core studies for all music majors. Music History is a part of the Music Theory, History and Composition Department. Three survey courses, called Literature and Style (I, II and III) are required of all majors. Electives in Music History are offered as upper-division courses, covering a wide variety of special topics.
A U.S., Department of Education, Title III Grant to promote Undergraduate Research within the Literature & Style courses was awarded to the Music History professors in 2009. As part of the grant, the resources needed to facilitate an undergraduate research environment are compiled here.
The Music History Resource Guide gives examples of documentation for projects, papers and posters. Explanations about musical titles, terminology, how and when to cite sources, what information to include with musical examples, and where to find resources are available here.
