Family & Friends

Welcome to SUNY Potsdam

Whether you are a parent, family member, mentor, guardian, friend or supporter, you play an important role in your student’s journey. At SUNY Potsdam, we believe that students thrive when they feel connected, supported and empowered to grow.

We also know that supporters often have questions about what to expect, how to help and where to turn when they need information.

This webpage is designed to help you stay informed, feel connected and understand the many ways students are supported throughout their time at Potsdam.

Here, you’ll find:

  • guidance for supporting students through transition and growth
  • answers to frequently asked questions
  • helpful information for visiting campus for Family & Friends weekend

You can also explore the Student Support Network webpage to learn more about the offices and services available to students.

We’re glad you’re here, and we’re grateful for the role you play in helping students succeed!

Need Help?

Not sure where to start? We’re here to help.

If you still have questions after exploring the Family & Friends webpage, you are not alone. College can come with a lot of information, and sometimes the most helpful next step is simply knowing who to contact.

A Good Place to Start

If you are not sure which office to contact first, we encourage you to reach out to the Office of First Year Experience Programs (FYEP). FYEP staff can help with transition questions, orientation, first-year student support, general student adjustment and connecting students to campus resources. The office serves as a helpful starting point for general questions, especially for new students and the families, friends and supporters who are helping them navigate the college experience at SUNY Potsdam.
