Physics

Minor in Physics

The physics minor is designed to develop competence in fundamental areas of classical and modern physics. A three term introductory sequence covers Newtonian physics and is followed by a course in “modern physics,” i.e., developments from 1900 onward.  Problem-solving and computational skills are emphasized and laboratory exercises complement the theoretical principles in lecture presentations. All of this is covered again on a deeper level in upper level courses in mechanics, electromagnetic theory, quantum physics and thermodynamics and statistical mechanics.
