How to Apply

 FAFSA

Visit YouTube for some helpful videos on how to fill out the FAFSA.

The most important step to get started is to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), to determine your eligibility for scholarships, grants, work-study and loans.  Never done a FAFSA before?  Click here for some helpful videos with an overview of the Financial Aid process including how to fill out the FAFSA.

Application Guidelines

  • The FAFSA is available to complete in early January. It is a good idea to file the FAFSA as soon as it is available.
  • Never leave spaces blank -- be sure to answer every required question, even if the answer is "0".
  • Avoid FAFSA Errors. Read and follow all instructions provided.  Respond quickly to all requests from the Financial Aid Office. Remember: even if your application is received by the priority date, you will not receive an award if your file is incomplete when award offers are made.
  • Complete all forms using your full given name. Don't use nicknames, and be sure to notify the Financial Aid Office and Registrar's Office of any name changes. The Social Security Administration should also be informed of any name changes. Otherwise, you might be causing delays in the awarding of aid.
  • Use the correct Social Security number! Listing an incorrect number can mean more delays and even loss of some financial aid sources.
  • Save copies of all forms and correspondence you submit, with the dates they were mailed noted. This way, you can refer to specifics when calling or writing about your application. Always keep copies of your tax returns and W- 2's.
