Fred Hosken is a music theorist with special interests in the perception and cognition of rhythm, and in the analysis of recorded performances, with a research focus on popular music of the 20th and 21st centuries. Prior to joining SUNY Potsdam, Fred was Assistant Professor of Practice in Music Theory at Georgetown University where he taught core curriculum and a range of liberal arts courses that focused on the culturally situated analysis and interpretation of music. Additionally, he also taught pop music analysis as part of a degree-bearing course at the Patuxent Institution, a maximum-security correctional facility in Maryland.
