Tim Savage is a native of Malone, NY where he began performing professionally at age 16. He holds a Bachelor of Science (1984) and Masters (1996) in Music Education from the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam. He recently retired from a fulfilling 32-year career as a public school music educator in the Malone, Watertown, Carthage, Heuvelton, and Canton Central School Districts. As an adjunct at Crane since 2012, Tim has taught courses and directed ensembles in Jazz, Saxophone Techniques, Secondary Wind Practices, and supervises student teachers in the North Country region. Adjunct at St. Lawrence University since 2005, he has directed the Chamber Winds, the Wind Ensemble, and, since its launch in 2007, the Improv Lab. He also teaches private saxophone and jazz piano lessons and is the band leader for the Gospel Choir at SLU. Over the past four decades, Tim has conducted a number of All-District, All-County, and Area All-State Bands and Orchestras. As a clinician, Tim has presented at NYSSMA and NYSBDA statewide conferences. Most recently, session titles have included Teaching through Modeling - Every Time, Twenty Top Titles for Jazz Ensemble, Jamming with Your Students and On-The-Spot Arranging, and All Blues and After That! Proven-to-Emerging Pedagogies in Jazz and Modern Band Education. Tim is past president of the board of directors of the Orchestra of Northern New York, past chairperson for the New York State Band Directors Association Honor Jazz Ensemble, served as Director of Jazz for Crane Youth Music from 1996-2019 and continues to serve as treasurer of the Crane School of Music Alumni Association (since 1999) and as a board member for the Northern New York Community Foundation.
